PCOS and Stress | What’s going on outside?

In the last few emails, I spoke about stress hormones and I mentioned a particular hormone called cortisol.

I spoke about how this hormone is often raised in PCOS sufferers and that it’s important we focus on our external environment to lower cortisol levels.

To lower stress hormones, in particular the dreaded cortisol, we need to focus on our external environment.

Our external environment is something that we expose our bodies to.

So what would be an example of an external environment?

Well, as you’re doing a course about nutrients, let’s use this as an example!

So this course is all about diet and nutrients!

To allow nutrients to go into your body you have to get them from external sources.

So foods and supplements (if you choose to go down the supplements route).

Your body can’t make all the nutrients you need.

You have to get these nutrients from external sources.

So, that would be an example of an external environment.

External environments could be something good for you or something that’s not too good for you!

So as I’ve been talking a lot about diet and nutrients, let’s stay here!

We both know that food can be good and bad for us!

We know that don’t we?

Now, I have a confession…

I love cakes!

[You too? Great!]

And like you, I know cakes aren’t good for me, well not too many!

Anyway…

I love cakes, but I know cake doesn’t love me and PCOS.

Having cake too often will raise a digestive hormone called insulin which is very close friends with cortisol. And if I do this too often, PCOS symptoms will soar.

So my love of cake which is an external source affects my body internally!

So is this the case for food only?

Oooo.

Urmmmmm.

No!

Sorry!

This isn’t only about food.

I know it’s not fair, is it?

But there are other external factors and I’ll talk about this tomorrow!

So tomorrow I’ll talk about other external environments.
