The 10,000 Steps Dilemma: A Closer Look at the Magic Number

Are you getting in your 10,000 steps a day?

If you are, that’s great!

It’s been shown that getting in your 10,000 steps quota is beneficial for lowering your risk of disease.

So if you’re meeting your daily quota, that’s great!

You’re benefiting and improving your health!

But I have concerns with this 10,000 steps number!

Why?

We're often told that we need to do 10000 steps a day to meet our daily health and wellness goals. But is there truth in this number. And is it achievable for most people!



Well, it’s the pressure people put on themselves to meet this quota.

And I just don’t like the number.

I mean, what happens if we don’t do it?

Will something happen to us?

Is it not beneficial to do 5000 steps daily?

What if you can only do 500 steps?

Isn’t 500 steps great if you’ve been barely able to walk 20 steps?

Can you see my concerns?

For some people, this number is a loose reference to keep them healthy.


But some people can get almost obsessive over this number.

Constantly tracking their steps.

Being angry with themselves that they’ve not met their daily goal.

So in this podcast/post, I talk about the good and bad side of aiming to achieve 10,000 steps a day.

And I’ll reveal where this 10,000 steps number came from!
